The National Careers Service Virtual Jobs Fair returns this week, promoting local job, apprenticeship and volunteering opportunities. The fair will be virtually visiting the North East and Cumbria on Thursday 19th November from 9am - 12pm. Taking part in the Virtual Jobs Fair is easy, people can simply search for vacancies using the hashtags #NECJobsFair #VirtualJobsFair on Twitter or follow the National Careers Service social media channels to find vacancies in their area. Coronavirus (COVID-19) Review: data and analysis, March to October 2020
ONS publication, which looks at the impacts of Covid-19 on the labour market from March to October 2020. The publication shows, as expected, that the employment rate has been decreasing since the start of the pandemic, while the unemployment rate started increasing a few months later. It also shows that the number of redundancies between June to August 2020 has reached the highest level seen since May to July 2009.
In terms of vacancy numbers, these remain low compared to before the pandemic however we are starting to see them increasing. The change in the volume of vacancies has differed throughout the pandemic across industry categories as can be seen below:
Gaming vacancies on the increase
Recruiter report that there has been an increase in Gaming vacancies despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The report acknowledges that many of these jobs are in back office support such as marketing, office support and procurement.

International Men's Day Resource
Amazing Apprenticeships have created a teaching resource for schools ‘The Apprenticeship A-Z of Men at Work’ to celebrate International Men’s Day (Thursday 19th November 2020). The resource pack includes a case study booklet accompanied by A-Z flashcards, featuring 25 male apprentices who are working in a range of different job roles.
