Job Gains and Losses
Fire safety and security company , TFS Limited are recruiting new staff including apprentices after securing a new contract to install fire systems throughout the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton (Bdaily).
The development of eateries and retail facilities at Wynyard Park is expected to create 40 jobs. The shops, restaurants/cafes will be at the junction of the A19 with the A689. This burgeoning area has 2,000 office workers at Wynyard Business Park, 1,500 households in the nearby housing development, and 9,000 people who live within five minutes’ drive of the location. Mabo Media, in Middlesbrough digital marketing company whose core business is pay per click advertising for its clients, has grown to 25 staff and plans to increase to 40 staff this year (Bdaily)
Clothing retailer, Calverton Brands is closing 102 of its Jacques Vert and Precis concessions. This will mean 449 job losses across the UK and the Republic of Ireland (Bdaily).
Construction Skills Hubs
The Government has a target of 300,000 new homes a year by the mid 2020s and expects that 158,000 new construction jobs will be created over the next 5 years. To support this, they have made available a £22m fund to help the construction industry. The fund is being administered by the CITB, who are calling on employers, housing associations and other interested bodies such as LEPs and local authorities to submit expressions of interest. The things and activities the fund is for are:
20 on-site training hubs
Work experience and placements for people working to join the industry
Entry pathways for those currently unemployed
Pathways for career switchers.
Exam Results Helpline
The National Careers Service will be running an exam results helpline from the 16th of August.
One of the things you can say about the NHS is that it is very good at counting its staff. The latest (they publish monthly figures) data shows the breakdown oof staff working in Trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups:
A workforce of 1,205,246; an increase of 36,000 in the last eight year
3,097 more doctors than 12 months ago
27% of the workforce and nurses and health visitors
191,619 (16%) are NHS infrastructure support
